Song Lyric Sunday – Gorilla by Bruno Mars

This week’s theme is to post songs about sex and I decided to go full on sex.  There are also some pretty “colorful” words.  So, if that’s something that offends you, I strongly suggest you do not read the lyrics or watch the video.

Now that the warning is over, let’s just talk a little bit about Bruno Mars and this song.  I’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to post a Bruno Mars song.  The man is freaking talented.  I LOVE his voice so much and he has so much range.   I also think he is a fantastic entertainer; his songs can be so much fun (Uptown Funk)!

This one though… When I first heard it, I was literally shocked.  It is so steamy and so sexy… I love it!  I laugh every time I hear it because it is so blatantly sex.  Some singers try to hide the sex in metaphors and other things, but this is not that.  It is full on getting it on and I enjoy every second of it every time I hear it.

I watched the video for the first time tonight.  It’s a little long and seems to have a sense of a Mexican soap opera, but don’t be fooled.  It has strippers and a steamy scene in a car.  If you’re looking for a sexy, steamy video to go along with the sexy, steamy lyrics, you will not be disappointed.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Gorilla by Bruno Mars

Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Ooh I got a body full of liquor
With a cocaine kicker
And I’m feeling like I’m thirty feet tall
So lay it down, lay it down

You got your legs up in the sky
With the devil in your eyes
Let me hear you say you want it all
Say it now, say it now

Look what you’re doing, look what you’ve done
But in this jungle you can’t run
‘Cause what I got for you
I promise it’s a killer,
You’ll be banging on my chest
Bang bang, gorilla

Ooh, yeah
You and me baby making love like gorillas
Ooh, yeah
You and me baby making love like gorillas

Yeah, I got a fistful of your hair
But you don’t look like you’re scared
You just smile and tell me, “Daddy, it’s yours.”
‘Cause you know how I like it,
You’s a dirty little lover

If the neighbors call the cops,
Call the sheriff, call the SWAT ‒ we don’t stop,
We keep rocking while they’re knocking on our door
And you’re screaming, “Give it to me baby,
Give it to me motherfucker!”

Oh, look what you’re doing, look what you’ve done
But in this jungle you can’t run
‘Cause what I got for you
I promise it’s a killer,
You’ll be banging on my chest
Bang bang, gorilla

Ooh, yeah
You and me baby making love like gorillas
Ooh, yeah
You and me baby making love like gorillas

I bet you never ever felt so good, so good
I got your body trembling like it should, it should
You’ll never be the same baby once I’m done with you
You

Oh, you with me baby making love like gorillas

Ooh, yeah
You and me baby we’ll be fuckin’ like gorillas
Ooh, yeah (Yeah, yeah, baby, baby, oh yeah, yeah)
You and me baby making love like gorillas

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 8/28/16

Time is just flying by!  I guess that happens when you are so busy.  I almost feel like every waking moment is taken up with talks of houses and cleaning the house and work.  I’m trying to really enjoy the times that aren’t about those three things, and Song Lyric Sunday is one of them.

The prompt I thought of for today is another one I’m sort of scared to use, but I figured we could all put up warnings if the songs are too explicit.  Or, as always, you can just post something that doesn’t have anything to do with the theme.  But, I’m getting ahead of myself…

When I started expanding my music interests, I started noticing that there are a lot of songs out there about sex.  I think the biggest one we all know is Greased Lightning from Grease.  I used to sing that song as a kid and had no idea what I was singing until I became an adult.  I don’t think it’s something we need to shy away from though… sex is a wonderful thing.  Singers obviously aren’t afraid to sing about it, so I think we should give them a nod and get a little steamy this week.

Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is to post a song about sex.  It can be as subtle or as blatant as you’d like, just make sure to post warnings just in case there are sensitive eyes out there.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Also, if you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at redesp75@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

My Overly Dramatic Notice

I’ve been meaning to write this post all week, but that just goes to show you how hectic my life has been.  I realized last week that I needed to take some time off and I was going to mention it, but it hasn’t quite happened yet.

So, here I am, letting you know (even though it’s already technically happened) that I’m going to have to take a break for a while.  I’m still going to post Song Lyric Sunday each week, but everything else is on hold for now.

We are trying to sell our house and looking for a new one and I honestly had no idea it could be this time consuming, stressful and pretty much all-consuming in every way possible.  Add to that the fact that my daughter is in town and the day job is freaking crazy, and it just means that when I get home, I vegetate.  I’m definitely not motivated to blog.

I’m hoping to be back in a few weeks to a more full schedule, but for now, I hope you continue to enjoy Song Lyric Sunday.  Remember that I’m thinking of you and missing all of you and the wonderful presence you’ve been in my life.

(It sounds like I’m actually saying goodbye, which I’m not.)

(I’m so dramatic)

(I think I spent a little too much time with my daughter today… if that can even happen…)

I love you WordPress community!!

Song Lyric Sunday – Burn from Hamilton

This one was hard for me.  I thought of three songs right off, but then it was tough to choose which one to post.  I suppose I could post multiple songs, but I think it would detract from the message in each, so I really wanted to just focus on one.  I asked my family for help, but it became even more difficult when my daughter picked one but my fiance picked another one.

I’ve decided to go with the one my daughter picked (sorry baby).

There are so many reasons I’m picking this song.  First of all, in case you didn’t know it by now, I’m in love with the musical, Hamilton.  Second, this song says everything you would want to say if you were betrayed by someone you love.  It’s specific to cheating, but I’ve felt this way when relationships ended.  I wondered if everything he said was a lie and I couldn’t make sense of where we were when it ended compared to where we were when we were happy and in love.

Some of my favorite lines, that just break my heart when I hear them: “Your sentences left me defenseless, you built me palaces out of paragraphs,” “You forfeit all rights to my heart, you forfeit the place in our bed.”  And when she sings, “You, you, you” as if she is pointing her finger at him, heart broken and at a loss for words.  This song is so powerful on so many levels.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Burn from the musical Hamilton
Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda
Lyrics found at Genius

I saved every letter you wrote me
From the moment I read them
I knew you were mine
You said you were mine
I thought you were mine

Do you know what Angelica said
When we saw your first letter arrive?
She said

“Be careful with that one, love
He will do what it takes to survive.”

You and your words flooded my senses
Your sentences left me defenseless
You built me palaces out of paragraphs
You built cathedrals
I’m re-reading the letters you wrote me
I’m searching and scanning for answers
In every line
For some kind of sign
And when you were mine
The world seemed to

Burn
Burn

You published the letters she wrote you
You told the whole world how you brought
This girl into our bed
In clearing your name, you have ruined our lives
Do you know what Angelica said
When she read what you’d done?
She said
“You have married an Icarus
He has flown too close to the sun.”

You and your words, obsessed with your legacy…
Your sentences border on senseless
And you are paranoid in every paragraph
How they perceive you

You, you, you…

I’m erasing myself from the narrative
Let future historians wonder how Eliza
Reacted when you broke her heart
You have torn it all apart
I am watching it
Burn
Watching it burn
The world has no right to my heart
The world has no place in our bed
They don’t get to know what I said
I’m burning the memories
Burning the letters that might have redeemed you
You forfeit all rights to my heart
You forfeit the place in our bed
You sleep in your office instead
With only the memories
Of when you were mine
I hope that you burn

The Song Lyric Sunday theme for this week was to explore anger.  Please feel free to click the link, read the rules and post one of your own.

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 8/21/16

I can’t believe another week has come and gone.  I’ve been so overwhelmed with life lately, that I haven’t had much of a chance to keep up with the blog.  However, I couldn’t miss Song Lyric Sunday!

I’ve been thinking a lot about music lyrics (obviously) and how they can sometimes say exactly what we are thinking but can’t put into words.  I think they also help us feel emotions that sometimes aren’t very pleasant, but are, I believe, necessary for healing.  I’ve debated using this theme, but I think it will be an interesting exploration.

Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is to post a song that explores anger.  (I know anger is a secondary emotion, so maybe that isn’t the best word choice, but I think it’s broad enough we should be able to come up with something.)

Mindful Monday – Getting Rid of Clutter

As I’m sitting down to write this, I’m realizing that the amazing thoughts I had yesterday are gone.  I was so excited to write this post because I knew exactly what it was going to be about, but now all my thoughts are jumbled and nothing sounds right.  I probably should have sat down and written it out right then, but I was busy.

So basically, I’m not much of a house cleaner.  I realized yesterday that it isn’t necessarily because I don’t like the act; I actually found it rather enjoyable.  As I got further into it, I realized that I’m so OCD about cleaning that I almost become spastic and I start seeing all the things that need to be done rather than focusing on the task in front of me.  I found it was better if I stayed in one place because if I left to put something away, I found myself stuck in that other room doing something in there.  It can make for a frustrating time of things.

I also had the epiphany yesterday that sometimes you don’t realize how much the clutter and chaos surrounding you is actually affecting you.  I literally removed two things from the kitchen and cleaned it really well and everyone in the house is saying how open it feels.  You’d think I had knocked out a few walls and added ten feet in all directions.

I really don’t like clutter, but we live in such a small space that it’s almost a given.  There just isn’t enough space for everything to have a place of its own.  I realized, though, that I stopped trying at a certain point because it was too hard.  But I’m finding that it makes a huge difference in just how it feels to be here.  Things are brighter and more comfortable.  I don’t even know if I can explain it, actually.

I think it relates to our thoughts in many ways.  Thoughts can clutter our minds so much that it makes it hard to just be in our own skin.  Sometimes it’s good to do a little house cleaning and freshen things up a bit.  Even though the clutter might return, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do the work to keep it at bay, or to stop it all together.

So there you have it.  A little house cleaning and I’m feeling fresher and more ready to do even more cleaning because I’ve realized what a difference it makes.

What about you?  Do you find that clutter can affect the mood of your house?

Happy Monday everyone!

Sunday Photo Fiction – Daddy

168-08-august-14th-2016

For my tenth birthday, I helped my daddy string flower lights through the trees and around the back deck.  We laughed and joked and had mama yellin’ at us cause it was takin’ so long.  A bunch of family came; people I don’t really know or care about.  I was allowed two friends, but honestly, the only person I wanted was daddy.

He stood at the barbeque grilling my favorite cheeseburgers.  I watched the sparks fly into the twinkling flower lights and thought it was the perfect day of my whole life.

Two days later daddy left.  He was wearing his uniform when I came downstairs for breakfast and I noticed his huge duffle back sitting by the door.  Tears welled in my eyes and I ran to him and threw my arms around his hips.  “I don’t want you to go,” I said.

“I know sweetie pie, but I’ll be home soon.  You’ll see.”

I don’t know what he meant by soon, exactly, cause another birthday is coming up and he still isn’t here.  We talk to him sometimes and get letters, but it isn’t the same.  I catch mama cryin’ in her room, and sometimes I go to her and she wraps her arms around me and we cry together.

Daddy didn’t have time to take down the lights before he left, so I spend a lot of afternoons out back, staring at those lights.  Sometimes, I squeeze my eyes tight and wish daddy were home, just like I was wishin’ on a star.

My birthday’s coming up.  I can’t help but think about it as I’m out back after school trying to do homework.  I look up at the lights and smile, thinking about last year and daddy.  Just then, I hear the best sound I’ve ever heard coming from behind me.

“Sweetie pie?”

I think for a minute it can’t possibly be daddy, so when I turn, my eyes are closed cause I just can’t bear to look.  When I open my eyes a tiny bit, I see him and run, tears streaming down my face.  He’s standing under the flower lights when I wrap my arms around his hips and squeeze tight.

“Daddy, you’re home!”

The rules for Sunday Photo Fiction are to create a story/poem or something using around 200 words with the photo as a guide, although it doesn’t have to be center stage.

I haven’t posted anything for this prompt in a while.  I always plan to, but Sunday comes and goes and I always feel bad I missed it.  This time, I was determined to sit down and write something and I was shocked at how fast this one came together.  I’m a bit over on the word count at 370, but I’m hoping that’s okay.

Song Lyric Sunday – Come Away by Citizen Zero

When you start a new job, it sort of takes a while before you start to really get to know everyone.  I think it helps to do things outside of work, but that can cause problems as well.  It’s a fine line, I’m guessing.

My coworkers and I went out one night after work to a bar to have a few drinks and just hang out.  They ended up telling me that our IT guy’s son is a guitarist in a band, they told me the band name and I started following them on Facebook.  I even listened to a demo and liked it, but didn’t really pursue it further than that.  It wasn’t until this week that I noticed posts that they were releasing their debut album, State of Mind, and it was coming out on Friday.

I ended up finding an article on Thursday where they streamed the entire album, and I listened to the whole thing.  It is amazing and I fell in love instantly!  I haven’t heard an album that I loved this much in a long time.  I went straight to iTunes and ordered it, so now I’ve listened to the whole thing a few times.  I love the singers voice and the guitar riffs.  I haven’t found a song on the album that I don’t like.   Our IT guy says they don’t have plans to come to Utah on this tour, but I’m hoping they make it here soon.

The hard part about finding a band so new, though, is that no one has posted the lyrics.  I was going to just post the song without the lyrics, but this is Song Lyric Sunday, so I feel like I have to have the lyrics.  I’ve decided I’m going to write them out while listening to the song so I can have a semblance of an actual post for you (brings back memories of when I used to do that as a kid!).

The video I found is an acoustic version of the song.   I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and if you do, check out the whole album.  You won’t regret it!

Come Away by Citizen Zero
Written by:  I wasn’t able to confirm it, but I believe a combination of band members wrote all the songs on the album

Dark clouds rolling over town
Heartache came pouring down
Feeling so strong
A cold rush through my bones
I don’t wanna walk alone

It’s a slow burn
But we all go up in flames
I’m burned
Looking to make my escape

Come away with me, come away with me
Come away with me, come away with me
On and on I search for something
On and on and on
But, you gave me something I can feel
To make it through this night

I swear, love, this is life or death
Drink my cup and save your breath
Crackling fire burning cold

It’s a slow burn
But we all ignite
I’m burned
Looking to make my escape

Come away with me, come away with me
Come away with me, come away with me
On and on I search for something
On and on and on
But, you gave me something I can feel
To make it through this night

Take a breath
We’re gonna start a war tonight
We’re gonna light that flame
Let it burn

We don’t have to be alone
Fighting fires all alone
Trying to stay warm

Come away with me, come away with me
Come away with me, come away with me
On and on I search for something
On and on and on
But, you gave me something I can feel
To make it through this night
To make it through this night
To make it through this night
To make it through this night

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 8/14/16

I have a tendency to find bands and singers I like and only listen to those ones.  My daughter opened my eyes to a much more diverse music library, but I still find myself falling back on the old “favorites” playlist.  It’s nice, but I do love finding new music.

Also, I realized this week that my “favorites” playlist has to fit on a phone that is running out of space, so it’s pretty limited.  My son reminded me this week of a band that I started listening to a few years ago and completely forgot about.  When he played one of their songs, it was almost like discovering them again for the first time.

What about you?  Are you stuck on the same singers and bands or do you branch out and listen to new things?  Well, if you’re the type to listen to the same things, this one might be tough for you because for tomorrow’s Song Lyric Sunday, I want us to post new music (at least new for you).  Post a song you heard recently for the first time and fell in love with.

While I have many times in my life when I don’t hear anything new that I like, I do find something on at least a monthly basis, so I’m thinking this one shouldn’t be too hard.  🙂

As always, feel free to post a song that has nothing to do with the theme.  We’re all here to share music and have fun after all.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song you choose
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process
