Song Lyric Sunday – Angel by Sarah McLachlan

I think there are many different ways to lose the one you love, but the one I’ve been fearing lately (and I don’t mean to be macabre) is that I won’t have as much time as I want with my soon to be husband.  We’ve both been struggling health-wise since we moved into our new house, and it makes me grateful for each new day  I get to spend with him.

If I ever do lose him, I imagine this song is how it would be.  I hope he visits me each night to bring some sort of comfort to my life.  As it stands now, I can’t imagine being without him, especially since I really feel like he was my second (third, fourth or fifth?) chance for happiness in love.  I’m truly blessed to be his partner in this thing called life and I couldn’t have asked for more.

Thank you for loving me baby and for making each new day brighter than the next.  You are truly my angel, even now.

Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there’s always some reason
to feel not good enough
and it’s hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
memories seep from my veins
let me be empty
and weightless and maybe
I’ll find some peace tonight

in the arms of the angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you’re in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

so tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there’s vultures and thieves at your back
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lies
that you make up for all that you lack
it don’t make no difference
escaping one last time
it’s easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

in the arms of the angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you’re in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here
you’re in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 2/26/17

I know I’m late in posting this today, but I started watching a movie and completely forgot about the blog.  Does anyone else find the need to watch all the Oscar nominated films of the year?  I find myself trying to do it every year, but this is the first year that I feel genuinely interested in each film; it just sucks that most of them weren’t on DVD when the Oscar nominations were announced.

That being said, I forgot how depressing they can be.  Depressing, but inspiring as well.  We watched Hacksaw Ridge last night and just finished Manchester by the Sea.  I have to admit to being completely wrecked by both films, but in entirely different ways.

Not that it has anything to do with this week’s post.  I just wanted to give some sort of reason why I’m so darn late today.

Anyway, onto the theme.  As you all know, we’ve been exploring love and this is our last week.  I suppose I might just be going all “Oscar nominated movies” on you, but I think it sort of fits.

So, our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is to post a song about losing someone you love.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at redesp75@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

Song Lyric Sunday – Endlessly by Amaranthe

I had a completely different song picked out for this week… It was a song I had wanted to share on my blog for a while and I was just looking for the right moment.  But then, I ended up going to a concert on Wednesday and everything changed.  I went to see my new favorite band, Citizen Zero, and they were opening for Amaranthe.  I’d never heard of them before but I’ve always been very open minded when it comes to music, especially after my concert-going days with Adelle.  I ended up listening to one song before the concert, which wasn’t too bad.  Amaranthe is a Swedish metal/hard rock band, although they don’t like to be defined by a specific genre.

Jaxon’s music choices are changing these days, so he wasn’t interested in going with me, but I found out my niece loves this band, so I ended up going with her and her cousin.  It was fun to watch them rock out to a band they loved.  I was able to just stand back and really enjoy their performance, which was amazing!

When Elize Ryd sang this song, I was immediately hooked.  Not only that, she’s my new favorite female band singer.  She was in heels and had hair down to her butt and she swung her head and jumped up and down as if that wasn’t completely difficult.  I always enjoy finding new music, but it’s even better when you fall in love with a band while watching them perform live.

This song makes me think of my Fiance and how grateful I am to have him in my life.  As much as I, and my family, already think of him as my husband, I am excited to finally make it official (in May).

I hope you enjoy this song (the video is stunning!).

Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Now come, let me be your light
There’s a truth we can’t defy
Somehow this time you won’t deny it
What got lost inside
I have found it now
There’s a reason why

I will love you endlessly
And even if I cry
I’ll be there by your side
For a lifetime
And I will love you endlessly
And even when we die
You’ll be there by my side
Endlessly

So come, let me be your light
After all these sleepless nights
Somehow I know my strength will guide you
Through the darkest times
Now that I have found
All the reasons why

I will love you endlessly
And even if I cry
I’ll be there by your side
For a lifetime
And I will love you endlessly
And even when we die
You’ll be there by my side
Endlessly

You know me well
Somehow I’m under your spell
I want you to see me and share every moment with you

‘Cause I…

I will love you endlessly
And even if I cry
I’ll be there by your side
For a lifetime
And I will love you endlessly
And even when we die
You’ll be there by my side
Endlessly

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 2/19/17

Does anyone else feel like time is just speeding by?  I can’t hardly believe we are almost finished with the month of February.  It’s still been cold, but it hasn’t been the bitter cold of January and I’ve seen a whole lot more sun.

We also finally planned a new date for the wedding.  I wanted to set it mainly because I was worried about asking for time off from work and I wanted to make sure I gave my boss enough time.  It was more a logistical thing than anything.  That was, until my daughter sent me a text asking about colors and walking down the aisle.  I started looking at dresses for the first time (not an actual wedding dress, but something special for our special day).  It actually got me excited and I’m starting to look forward to it!

You must be wondering why I’m talking about my wedding when this is supposed to be the theme post, but it is related, I promise!

As you know, we’ve been celebrating love this month and this week we’ve finally reached the time where we are deeply in love and settled in our relationship, whatever that might mean for you.  So, our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is to post a song about love-your favorite love song, your song with your loved one or any way you’d like to interpret that deep abiding love through music.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

SoCS – My hampered ability to write and finding a way back

I haven’t been writing much on my blog as of late, and I honestly have no excuses this time, which makes it glaringly obvious that it’s just me.  Or maybe it’s the cold or the chaos all around us right now or… I’m sure I could come up with any number of things and swear they were hampering my ability to write.

The truth is, I just got out of the habit.  I also changed my writing space (something that was a necessity with the move) but I don’t feel as comfortable.  It’s weird because I have a more comfortable chair and I am in love with my house, so I can’t quite fathom why it’s so much different.  I’m thinking that in the townhouse I was at least in a “separate” are and could tune out what was going on around me.  Now my desk is pretty much right next to the TV, which makes it difficult.

We do have an office, but it is also a guest room, and that is currently being used, so my desk isn’t moving anytime soon.  Although, now that I’m thinking about it, I may just move it downstairs.  We have this huge space downstairs which goes relatively unused, especially when my boys aren’t here.  I would still be out in the middle of a living room, but I think it will be easier to find more quite time to write.

I still manage to surprise myself sometimes, though.  I was pretty down about the whole writing thing this week and in that state of mind where I thought I’d lost the ability to come up with a story in my head.  I follow Friday Fictioneers and the first time I looked at the photo, I told myself it was useless.

Then, I was driving to work yesterday morning sort of drifting in my thought process about that photo, when suddenly it all came to me.  I couldn’t get to work fast enough so I could write it all down.

I’m thinking I haven’t lost the ability to write at all, I’ve just lost my focus.  And that, my friends, isn’t as mind numbing to think about.  All I have to do now is set aside time and really get back into the swing of things.

So, hopefully you will all see more of me here on the blog.  My psyche is in need of purging since it’s doing it anyway in my dreams, which is not necessarily a fun process.

Happy Saturday everyone and Happy Writing!

Stream of Consciousness Saturday is both hosted by Linda G Hill. Today’s prompt is “ham”.

Friday Fictioneers – The Closed Door

broken-face-liz
PHOTO PROMPT © Liz Young

When Mama shuts the door, I slump down in the corner of the tiny space and pull my knees to my chest.  It ain’t cold.  I just don’t like the dark, and the slit under the door barely helps.  I sure can hear, though.

Daddy’s yellin’ and Mama’s whimperin’.   It happens ‘bout every other day.

Then Mama starts screamin’ and shivers run up and down my body.  She screams for a while, then it goes real silent.  I’m afraid to get up, so I hold real still for what seems like hours.

When the door finally opens, it ain’t Mama comin’ to fetch me.

Friday Fictioneers is a weekly flash fiction prompt where we are given a photo and asked to write a 100 word story – beginning, middle and end.  This one came in at 104 words.

Song Lyric Sunday – Million Reasons by Lady Gaga

This might seem like a strange choice for those who really know me because I’ve never been a Lady Gaga fan.  However, I’m starting to think that maybe I should have been.  I’ve always said she has an amazing voice, but I was always turned off by the persona she portrayed on stage.  Now I’m thinking that I was just being judgmental and I missed out on a lot of amazing music.

It seems that Adelle has turned into a huge pop music fan.  I think some of that has to do with the shows they put on… she loves picking apart the stage design and trying to recreate how it was done.  We talked after the Super Bowl half-time show this year, and she was in awe and so excited.  She also texted me when Lady Gaga’s new album came out and I ended up listening to most of it and fell in love with it.

Not only is Lady Gaga an amazing singer, I believe her music and lyrics are universal and beautiful.  Pretty much every time I’ve heard this song, I’ve cried.

“Every heartbreak makes it hard to keep the faith” and they also make it so much easier for those doubts and insecurities to creep in.  What makes this one different?  Am I falling for the same type of toxic, abusive relationship as the last one?  It’s almost like when you’re looking for what’s wrong, that’s all you see.

But sometimes, all we need is one reason.  Just one.  Sometimes, that’s all that’s kept my current relationship afloat, but the more we hold on, the stronger we become.  I’m so grateful I chose to stay when it seemed that there was nothing left.  We are stronger today than we ever have been and I can’t imagine my life without him in it.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the song as much as I do.

Million Reasons by Lady Gaga
Written by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson and Hillary Lindsey
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

You’re giving me a million reasons to let you go
You’re giving me a million reasons to quit the show
You’re givin’ me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin’ me a million reasons
About a million reasons

If I had a highway, I would run for the hills
If you could find a dry way, I’d forever be still
But you’re giving me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin’ me a million reasons
About a million reasons

I bow down to pray
I try to make the worse seem better
Lord, show me the way
To cut through all his worn out leather
I’ve got a hundred million reasons to walk away
But baby, I just need one good one to stay

Head stuck in a cycle, I look off and I stare
It’s like that I’ve stopped breathing, but completely aware
‘Cause you’ve given me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Giving me a million reasons
About a million reasons

And if you say something that you might even mean
It’s hard to even fathom which parts I should believe
‘Cause you’ve given me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin’ me a million reasons
About a million reasons

I bow down to pray
I try to make the worse seem better
Lord, show me the way
To cut through all his worn out leather
I’ve got a hundred million reasons to walk away
But baby, I just need one good one to stay

Aye-eee-ayeee-ay-ayyee
Oh, baby I’m bleedin’, bleedin’
Aye-eee-ayeee-ay-ayyee
Can’t you give me what I’m needin’, needin’
Every heartbreak makes it hard to keep the faith
But baby, I just need one good one
Good one, good one, good one, good one, good one

When I bow down to pray
I try to make the worse seem better
Lord, show me the way
To cut through all his worn out leather

I’ve got a hundred million reasons to walk away
But baby, I just need one good one, good one
Tell me that you’ll be the good one, good one
Baby, I just need one good one to stay aye eee ayeee

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 2/12/17

I think I’m going through some changes, trying to figure out a new pattern for myself in the new house.  I’ve also started reading more again, which means I’m spending less time writing.  I know that’s just an excuse, but it’s what I have for now.  I really want to write more and blog more, but I haven’t found the right rhythm here in the house.  I’m wondering if it’s desk placement.  Does that affect writing?

Anyway, enough about my lack of presence on the blog.  At least I’m here to offer you another Song Lyric Sunday theme for the week.

As I said last week, we are going through different stages of love.  Last week, we explored that moment when you first like someone and you think maybe they’re the one.  When you finally find someone you are willing to take the next step with, you may have a few months or a few years of bliss, but there is a point where the doubts start creeping in.  Maybe you have a fight or maybe you start to notice all the little things that you didn’t when you were so full of new love.  Any number of things can cause those pesky doubts to creep in.

Which leads us to the theme this week.  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is to post a song about the doubts and insecurity you experience in a relationship.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Song Lyric Sunday – Just a Kiss by Lady Antebellum

I had no idea that most of the songs I love aren’t truly “joyful” love songs.  I’ve been thinking about this since I posted the theme last night and I was at a loss.  I was literally going through my library song by song this morning.  When I ran across this song, I was so excited I finally found one!

As many of you know, I used to be a HUGE country music fan.  Now, I can listen to it and I even enjoy some of it, but it isn’t my favorite.  That’s probably why all my favorite country songs are ten years old or more.  This one isn’t quite that old, but it’s not new either.

I just listened to it again and remembered why I fell in love with it the first time I heard it.  First of all, I love this group.  I love their harmonies and their voices.  I also really like their music.

The song makes me think of my first date with my fiance.  I was so scared of screwing things up and I didn’t want to rush things because I know how I am.  When I meet someone I like, I’m all in pretty quickly and it hasn’t always been good for me.  Even knowing that about myself, it still blows me away that we were on our date for six hours just talking and laughing and getting to know each other.  We ended the night with a very long, sweet kiss and it was perfect.  It hasn’t always been easy, but we are just about to celebrate our four year anniversary, and marriage is only a few months away (no firm date yet, lol).

I do hope you enjoy the song as much as I do!

Just a Kiss by Lady Antebellum
Written by Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood and Dallas Davidson
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Lyin’ here with you so close to me
It’s hard to fight these feelings when it feels so hard to breathe
Caught up in this moment
Caught up in your smileI’ve never opened up to anyone
So hard to hold back when I’m holding you in my arms
We don’t need to rush this
Let’s just take it slow

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch of the fire burning so bright
No I don’t want to mess this thing up
I don’t want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life
So baby I’m alright, with just a kiss goodnight

I know that if we give this a little time
It’ll only bring us closer to the love we wanna find
It’s never felt so real, no it’s never felt so right

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch of the fire burning so bright
No I don’t want to mess this thing up
I don’t want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life
So baby I’m alright, with just a kiss goodnight

No I don’t want to say goodnight
I know it’s time to leave, but you’ll be in my dreams

Tonight
Tonight
Tonight

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch of the fire burning so bright
No I don’t want to mess this thing up
I don’t want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life
So baby I’m alright, oh, let’s do this right, with just a kiss goodnight
With a kiss goodnight
Kiss goodnight

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 2/5/17

I was never so happy to see February as I was this year.  I don’t have anything against January, but this one just seemed really dreary, and I felt like I was drowning in it.  I can’t tell you how happy I am that the first few days of this month have been sunnier and warmer.  Personally, I think our song prayers worked last week.

I’m not huge of celebrating something just because a certain day says I should (Valentine’s Day), but it is nice to celebrate love.  So, I’ve decided it would be a fun over-all theme for this month, but rather than just posting songs about love randomly, I think we should work through the stages of love.

Which leads us to the theme.  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is to post a song about your first crush, or just a crush, or seeing someone for the first time and falling into that gooey abyss of butterflies and blushing.  You get the drift.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!
