Song Lyric Sunday – Blind by Kesha

There were a lot of obvious choices this week but I wanted to find something that maybe wasn’t as well know, so I went looking through my library.  I’m getting pretty familiar with all the artists in there because I scroll through it every Saturday.  You’d think I’d be listening to it more, but I sort of got into podcasts and don’t really listen to music as much as I used to.

Anyway, I’ve come across Kesha a few times and haven’t had an occasion to use one of her songs.  She isn’t one of my favorite artists.  Some of her songs are kind of annoying, to be honest, but this one fit so perfectly and has such a great beat that I thought I’d share it.

It is difficult when a relationship ends, but for some reason it’s nice to think of your ex being unhappy or not finding whatever they may have left you for.  I’ve walked away from most of my relationships, but there was one that I was doubting my decision to leave.  It didn’t take long to realize that I’d made the right decision, but he sort of made it easy when he moved in with someone else within a few months, got married a few months after that, and was pregnant six later, even after he told me he didn’t want kids.

I saw him a few years later, and I have to say that he didn’t look good.  It sounds terrible, but I was almost happy that he looked so miserable.  This song makes me think of that.

I hope you enjoy!

I think you got the best of me
You’re sleepin’ with the enemy
You left me all alone, alone, alone, alone
The beat drops, I’m so low
My heart stops, I already know
You left me all alone, alone, alone, alone
I’m sick and tired of the mess you made me
Never gonna catch me cry oh, whoa, whoa
You must be blind if you can’t see
You’ll miss me till the day you die
Oh, whoa, whoa, without me you’re nothing
Oh, whoa, whoa, you must be blind if you can’t see
You’ll miss me till the day you die
Oh, whoa, whoa
I’ve let go finally over you
This drama that you put me through
I’m better all alone, alone, alone, alone
The beat drops, you’re so low
It’s last call and it’s gotten old
Now look who’s all alone, alone, alone, alone
I’m sick and tired of the mess you made me
Never gonna catch me cry oh, whoa, whoa
You must be blind if you can’t see
You’ll miss me till the day you die
Oh, whoa, whoa without me you’re nothing
Oh, whoa, whoa, you must be blind if you can’t see
You’ll miss me till the day you die
Oh, whoa, whoa
I trusted you, you were the first
Then you lied and it gets worse
You broke me down, now just look around
(Who’s all alone?)
Who’s all alone now?
I’m sick and tired of the mess you made me
Never gonna catch me cry
Oh, whoa, whoa
You must be blind if you can’t see
You’ll miss me till the day you die
Oh, whoa, whoa
Without me you’re nothing
Oh, whoa, whoa
You must be blind if you can’t see
You’ll miss me till the day you die

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 9/10/17

This week, the lyric Simply Marquessa chose was: “Payback is a bad bitch…”  I’m honestly not huge on revenge or vengeance, but sometimes I think about it, just like probably everyone else.  It’s fun to let your mind run wild about things you would like to do to someone who has wronged you.  Maybe that’s why these types of songs and song lyrics are so mesmerizing.

I tend to think that nature has a way of working itself out, though, so no need to put myself in harms way just to get back at someone.  The time will come when things will catch up to them.  At least, that’s the hope.

Anyway, on to the theme reveal.  In case you haven’t guessed already, the theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is revenge/vengeance.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at helenvahdati@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

#MarquessaChallenge – The Awful Truth

Riley’s heart was beating so fast she feared the sound was resonating through the room. She burrowed deeper into the covers even though sweat was dripping down the back of her neck. She could hear his footsteps coming down the hallway and even though she was anticipating his arrival, it still sent shivers down her spine. She didn’t realize she’d been holding onto the hope that it was all just a big mistake. She wanted to believe Sam, knew she should believe her, but she also knew that sometimes kids played make-believe.

She heard him pause at the bedroom door and then heard it slowly opening. He hadn’t turned on the hallway light, but her eyes had already grown accustomed to the darkness in the room.

“Sam, are you awake,” he whispered?

Riley’s stomach turned and bile rose in her throat.

“Baby girl, it’s Daddy. It’s time to play our little game.” As he spoke, she heard his feet rustling on the carpet and saw his shadow moving closer and closer to the bed. She watched in sick fascination as he leaned down and slowly started to pull the covers back.

“What the hell?” He stepped back, but she was already climbing out of the bed with a gun aimed somewhere in the center of his body. “Riley! Sweetie, I can expl…”

The sound of the gun reverberated through the room over and over again until she clicked for what seemed liked the thousandth time and no more bullets came out. Finally, the only sound that remained was the ringing in her ears and the ragged gurgling of her husband’s dying breath.

Song Lyric Sunday – It’s Beginning To Get To Me by Snow Patrol

I honestly had no idea what song I was going to pick today.  The one I would have picked if I hadn’t used it already would have been Breathe by Anna Nalick.  But, I’m all about not duplicating here on the bog so I had to go search for something else.

I was so excited when I actually read the lyrics to this song.  Ever since I heard Snow Patrol for the first time, I’ve been in love with them.  There’s just something in their music that touches me in a deep way and I think their lyrics are amazing.

This song makes me think of my last marriage.  It was hard for me to be with someone whom I felt was so cold.  I felt alone all the time, even when right next to him.  I’m a pretty passionate person and the lyric in this song, “we need to feel breathless with love” is exactly how I feel about love.  I also felt like I was “screaming under my breath” just to be heard.  It was a sad existence and I’m happy I finally found courage enough to walk away.

I could not have imagined then that I would find the love of my life and finally feel that passion and peace that I’ve always longed for.

I hope you enjoy!

Lyrics found on Google Play Music

I want something
That’s purer than the water
Like we were

It’s not there now
Ineloquence and anger
Are all we have

Like Saturn’s rings
An icy loop around me
Too hard to hold

Lash out first
At all the things we don’t like
Or understand

And it’s beginning to get to me
That I know more of the stars and sea
Than I do of what’s in your head
Barely touching in our cold bed

Are you beginning to get, get my point?
They’re always fighting with aching joints
It’s doing nothing but tire us out
No one knows what this fight’s about

The answer phone
The lonely sound of your voice
Frozen in time

I only need
The compass that you gave me
To guide me on

And it’s beginning to get to me
That I know more of the stars and sea
Than I do of what’s in your head
Barely touching in our cold bed

Are you beginning to get get my point?
They’re always fighting with aching joints
It’s doing nothing but tire us out
No one knows what this fight’s about

It’s so thrilling but also wrong
Don’t have to prove that you are so strong
‘Cause I can carry you on my back
After our enemies attack

I tried to tell you before I left
But I was screaming under my breath
You are the only thing that makes sense
Just ignore all this present tense

We need to feel breathless with love
And not collapse under its weight
I’m gasping for the air to fill
My lungs with everything I’ve lost

We need to feel breathless with love
And not collapse under its weight
I’m gasping for the air to fill
My lungs with everything I’ve lost

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 9/3/17

As you may or may not know, I’m teaming up with Simply Marquessa during the month of September.  She is hosting a Friday Fiction challenge that is centered around music lyrics and I will continue to do SLS.  Since her post goes up on Friday, I’m going to try and find the theme from her post for the week.

This week, the lyric she chose was “Everytime I think of you, I always catch my breath.”  When I checked, I was honestly surprised that I hadn’t done this theme before. While breathing seems like such a basic thing, it is really one of those things that centers and grounds you when you focus on it (at least it does for me).  I also did a quick search, and I can tell you that there is no shortage of songs out there.  You actually might have a hard time narrowing it down to just one.

Anyway, just in case you didn’t catch it, the theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is breathing/breath.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

#MarquessaChallenge – After All These Years

Aaden locked up the truck, flung his bag over his shoulder and walked in the house.  Every time he went on a long haul, he expected to feel comforted when he finally made it home.  The first few times had felt like a blissful reunion, but after five years of driving, he felt like an alien when he walked in the door.

He found them watching a movie in the living room.  Anna was cuddled on the couch with Rachael, and Brady was curled in the recliner.

Anna turned when she heard his approach. “I didn’t know you’d be home tonight.”

“I didn’t either. The roads were relatively clear, so I was able to haul ass.”  He leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead.  It was only then he realized that both kids were asleep.  “Do you want me to carry them to their beds?”

“That would be great.”

As he was settling the kids, his thoughts returned to Quinn.  He never went very long without thinking of her, and on the road he allowed his thoughts to run wild. I wonder what she’s doing now.  Does she remember me?

Thoughts of her long red hair and lithe body always made his breath catch in his throat.  How was it possible to still feel this way after so many years, especially about a childhood crush?  Regret consumed him when he thought of how he’d chickened out and never told her how he felt.  The one kiss he’d stolen when they were eight years old in her parent’s front yard was all he really had, which was truly pathetic.

After settling his kids into bed, he went into the bedroom he shared with his wife.  He knew she would stay in the living until her movie was finished, so he had time.  While he was driving, he’d come up with a plan to reach out to Quinn.  It was risky as hell, but if anything, he just wanted closure.  Yeah right, he thought.  Who am I kidding?

Opening his laptop with clammy hands that were shaking uncontrollably, he clicked on the search engine and logged onto Facebook.
