Song Lyric Sunday – Chocolate by Snow Patrol

I find it strange that no matter how hard I try to go in a different direction, I always seem to end up with the first thing that came into my head when I came up with the theme.  It’s no different this week.  I thought this song was maybe sideways to the theme, but chocolate is technically candy, right?

Ever since I first heard Snow Patrol on the radio, I’ve loved them.  Although the video is slightly weird and I find that the lyrics have nothing whatsoever to do with chocolate, I still love it.  If you stick around for the ending of the video, it’s worth it.  I finally understood what the video was about, anyway, and I think it’s an important message.  We don’t always have to run just because there’s a deadline or a clock ticking down, but we always seem to do it just because we should.  I don’t know, it’s worth thinking about.

Anyway, even though the lyrics don’t fit the theme, I figure the title does (sort of), and that’s good enough for me.

I hope you enjoy!

This could be the very minute
I’m aware I’m alive
All these places feel like home

With a name I’d never chosen
I can make my first steps
As a child of twenty-five

This is the straw, final straw in the
Roof of my mouth as I lie to you
Just because I’m sorry doesn’t mean
I didn’t enjoy it at the time

You’re the only thing that I love
Scares me more every day
On my knees I think clearer

Goodness knows I saw it coming
Or at least I’ll claim I did
But in truth I’m lost for words

What have I done? It’s too late for that
What have I become? Truth is nothing yet

A simple mistake starts the hardest time
I promise I’ll do anything you ask, this time

  2. One of those rare songs that the title appears nowhere in the lyrics. It happens from time to time but I find it odd that something sweet like chocolate would be used to describe the end of a relationship. Maybe dark chocolate – something bitter sweet?

I don’t know; I’m feeling philosophical today. LOL.

  3. I LOVED this song. And co-incidentally (if there is such a thing) I finally got around to listening to it immediately following the unprecedented Golden Globe awards the other night. The whole “Time’s Up!” theme seemed connected to your song choice!

(I guess I gotta get me some more Snow Patrol…)
