Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 1/28/18

This year, I’m preparing for another child to turn eighteen and potentially move out of the house.  I have no idea what his plans are, so I can’t say that will actually happen, but just the thought of it makes me sad.  It was difficult, to say the least, when my daughter decided to go to college clear across the country.  I’m happy we decided to drop her off at college, but that was probably one of the hardest goodbyes I’ve ever said.  The plane trip home was heart-wrenching.

It’s never easy to say goodbye, even knowing you will see that person again.  It’s even harder when a loved one passes on and all you have left are the memories.

As dismal as this could end up, I still think it’s a topic worth exploring through music.  So, get your thinking caps on, break out your playlists and let’s get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “goodbye/farewell”.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

I’m teaming up with Simply Marquessa  and her LyricalFictionFriday theme was based on today’s SLS theme.  Her posts go up on Thursday, so please check out her blog to delve into the world of music and fiction.

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

Feel free to use the Song Lyric Sunday badge by copying it into your post or add it to your site to show you are participating.

  2. Don’t even have to think about this one. That’s easy for me. I’m going with the song (and specific version of it) I want played at my funeral because it fits the theme so well.

  3. Reblogged this on Simply Marquessa and commented:
Goodbyes and farewells are usually sad and never easy. I could think of a million songs that bring up memories of goodbyes and I’m sure you can too.

Why not join in this week’s challenge and share your song choice and lyrics at This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time?

  15. My sister used the song I was thinking of, thanks sissy, so I started to think about two women, my grandmother and my mother-in-law. They knew each other before I met my husband, and the impact they both had on my life is, to me, astounding. One provided me a safe haven while growing up, and the other shared with me her son, and opened her heart to me as though I were her own daughter. All of this led me to “The World,” by Five for Fighting. Being a historian, the line “history starts now,” actually makes sense to me, and both of these women, in their own way, encouraged me to make my own history, to become the woman I wanted to be. This song is for them…and for my own daughter. “Build a masterpiece.”

Got a package full of wishes
A time machine, a magic wand
A globe made out of gold
    No instructions or commandments
    Laws of gravity or
    Indecision’s to uphold
Printed on the box I see
Acme’s build a world to be
Take a chance, grab a piece
    Help me to believe it
What kind of world do you want?
    Think anything
    Let’s start at the start
    Build a masterpiece
Be careful what you wish for
    History starts now
Should there be people or peoples
Money, funny pedestals for fools who never pay
Raise your army, choose your steeple
Don’t be shy, the satellites can look the other way
Lose the earthquakes, keep the faults
Fill the oceans without the salt
Let every man own his own hand
    Can you dig it, baby?
What kind of world do you want?
    Think anything
    Let’s start at the start
    Build a masterpiece
Be careful what you wish for
    History starts now
    Sunlight’s on the bridge
    Sunlight’s on the way
    Tomorrow’s calling
There’s more to this than love
What kind of world do you want
What kind of world do you want
What kind of world do you want
    Think anything
    Let’s start at the start
    Build a masterpiece, yeah
    History starts now
    Starts now
Be careful what you wish for
    Start now
