Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 7/1/18

I apologize for the lateness of the post. I’m spending the weekend with my Sis, and we were busy cooking dinner and watching the World Cup. I had risotto for the very first time tonight, and it was dynamite. I think my sister is an amazing cook and I am rather lucky to have her here. I also decided to try something new, but I’m more of a baker, so I found an interesting recipe for pistachio, white chocolate chip cookies. I just put the first batch in the oven, so we shall see how they turn out.

Is anyone else watching the World Cup? My hubby and I are having a great time watching it. We had two teams we were following when it started, and unfortunately only one made it to the round of sixteen, so it will be interesting and fun to see if they can move forward.

Which actually brings us to our theme this week.  So, let’s put on our thinking caps on, break out our playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is game.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at helenvahdati@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

Song Lyric Sunday – Stay Awake by All Time Low

This one lyric has been running through my head all night – “Dreams only last for a night”. I knew the band was All Time Low, but I couldn’t remember exactly which song it was. I’m happy it was an easy Google search to find the perfect song for me today.

There are plenty of songs to choose from for this theme, but I just had to post this one. It speaks to me about life and not giving up, no matter how hard things can be. I’m stuck in a place like that right now, but I am determined not give up.

Besides, All Time Low is just a great Sunday band. They’re upbeat, they have great lyrics, and I’m just in love with them.

I do hope you enjoy!

Caught in a cold sweat stuck splitting hairs
I’m drinking too much
I’m on my way to striking out
Go to sleep with the pressure of everyone
Watching, waiting, they’re yours for the taking
But I still have my doubts
Before you ask which way to go
Remember where you’ve been
Stay awake, get a grip and get out
You’re safe from the weight of the world
Just take a second to set things straight
I’ll be fine even though I’m not always right
I can count on the sun to shine
Dedication takes a lifetime
But dreams only last for a night
Figure it out boy, you’re tripping
So pull yourself together
Or you’ll wash up like the rest
This ship is sinking, I’m thinking I’m done for
I watch as the sails disappear underwater
‘Cause I’m no captain yet
I said, “Before you ask which way to go
Remember where you’ve been”
Stay awake, get a grip and get out
You’re safe from the weight of the world
Just take a second to set things straight
I’ll be fine, even though I’m not always right
I can count on the sun to shine
Dedication takes a lifetime
But dreams only last for a night
Believe you me, I’ll give them everything
I’d tell them anything to show them everything
Believe you me, I’ll give them everything
I’d tell them anything to show them everything
‘Cause you ain’t the only ones who wanna live it up
You ain’t the only ones
You ain’t the only ones who wanna live it up
You ain’t the only ones
You ain’t the only ones who wanna live it up
You ain’t the only ones
You ain’t the only ones who wanna live it up
You ain’t the only ones
Stay awake, get a grip and get out
You’re safe from the weight of the world
Just take a second to set things straight
I’ll be fine, even though I’m not always right
I can count on the sun to shine
Dedication takes a lifetime
But dreams only last for a night

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 6/24/18

I find it rather amazing how our minds work. Not that I claim to know much about the process, but I do know that we try to make sense of everything while we sleep. I know some people don’t remember their dreams, but I seem to have a knack for it. There have been times in my life that I begged whomever would listen to just let me sleep in peace; that deep, black place where your thoughts and everything else can finally rest.

I realize that even on the nights you don’t remember them, you are still dreaming, but for the most part, I wish I was one of those people who didn’t remember. Not only that, I seem to be that person who can’t have a happy dream, no matter what is going on. Perhaps that’s why I write. I’ve made the correlation before, and it has been a while since I really sat down and just got my thoughts out. Perhaps its time to pick it back up again.

Anyway, it is Saturday, and that time once again.  So, let’s put on our thinking caps on, break out our playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is dream.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Song Lyric Sunday – The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls

It took me a little while to find something I wanted to share. I did think of Seasons of Love from Rent, but I didn’t necessarily want to share that one, so I kept looking. I finally took my pain-wracked body downstairs to look at my iTunes on my computer. It didn’t take me long before I found exactly what I was looking for.

I fell in love with this band what seems like forever ago. I’m surprised I haven’t shared any of their songs before for SLS, but I’m happy to share them with you today. I remembered why I love them so much when I listened to this song again today. It’s upbeat and fun and I just really needed this one right now.

They do have a song called Five Minutes to Midnight, but I had more fun with this one, and they do sing “All of the wasted time, the hours that were left behind,” so I think I’ve hit the theme for this week. Also, this one always made me think of graduation, when you’re finally done with all the rules and you can just escape!

I do hope you enjoy!

Paper bags and plastic hearts
All our belongings in shopping carts
It’s goodbye
But we got one more night
Let’s get drunk and drive around
And make peace with an empty town
We can make it right
Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We’ll make the great escape
We won’t hear a word they say
They don’t know us anyway
Watch it burn
Let it die
‘Cause we are finally free tonight
Tonight will change our lives
It’s so good to be by your side
But we’ll cry
We won’t give up the fight
We’ll scream loud at the top of our lungs
And they’ll think it’s just ’cause we’re young
And we’ll feel so alive
Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We’ll make the great escape
We won’t hear a word they say
They don’t know us anyway
Watch it burn
Let it die
‘Cause we are finally free tonight
All of the wasted time
The hours that were left behind
The answers that we’ll never find
They don’t mean a thing tonight
Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We’ll make the great escape
We won’t hear a word they say
They don’t know us anyway
Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We’ll make the great escape
We won’t hear a word they say
They don’t know us anyway
Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We’ll make the great escape
We won’t hear a word they say
They don’t know us anyway
Watch it burn
Let it die
‘Cause we are finally free tonight

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 6/17/18

Can you believe it? I almost forgot about Song Lyric Sunday this week. I was sitting here, drowning in lethargy, wondering how I’m going to stay awake for the next six hours. I spent the morning hiking and then the last two hours pulling dead things out of the garden. I’m spent! I also didn’t do my back any favors, but such is life. Someone’s gotta pull dead things out of there, otherwise they will choke off the living things (it’s already starting to happen, to be honest).

None of this has anything to do with the theme, other than I needed to come up with something and decided to continue something I started a while back. It’s crazy to me how quickly time can fly by. There are also times when minutes can seem like hours. Time is just a strange thing.

Anyway, this sort of leads us right into it.  So, let’s put on our thinking caps on, break out our playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is seconds/minutes/hours. Pick one or find a song that features all three!

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Song Lyric Sunday – Fields of Gold by Sting

I’m not sure what made me think of this song, but it ended up being perfect.  I haven’t heard this song in ages, but it got me through a pretty bad breakup a lifetime ago.  I listened to it on repeat, crying my eyes out, thinking things would just never get better.  It’s surprising to me how things can change so drastically, given enough time.

I saw Sting perform recently and I was amazed that he still has it.  He is a brilliant performer and I will always love his voice.

I do hope you enjoy!

ou’ll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley
You’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we walk in fields of gold
So she took her love for to gaze awhile upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down among the fields of gold
Will you stay with me, will you be my love among the fields of barley?
We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we lie in fields of gold
See the west wind move like a lover so upon the fields of barley.
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth among the fields of gold
I never made promises lightly and there have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left we’ll walk in fields of gold
We’ll walk in fields of gold
Many years have passed since those summer days among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down among the fields of gold
You’ll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky when we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold, when we walked in fields of gold

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 6/10/18

OK, so I’m actually going to do this correctly this week. I think I apologized enough on Sunday for getting the theme wrong last week, but I’m not sure it’s all bad since many of you said the one I actually did was easier. I suppose that means I need to make it a bit harder this week. I’m going once again with a Jim Adam’s suggestion, but I promise to get it done right this time.

I just got back from a long hike in the mountains that totally kicked my ass.  I’m just hoping I can come up with a song for the theme…

So, let’s just get right to it.  Put your thinking caps on, break out your playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week, brought to us by Jim Adams, is to post a song with a metaphor in the title or lyrics.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Song Lyric Sunday – She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5

Not only did I get Jim Adam’s theme wrong (it was supposed to be simile), if I had it to do all over again, I probably wouldn’t have picked “smile”.  All I can think is that it’s the universe’s way of getting to me.  Perhaps it’s trying to tell me something.  Perhaps I need to smile, but in the past few days, I keep finding reasons not to.

I suppose that’s what led me to pick this particular song.  Maybe someone, somewhere will see something good in me, because I’m for sure not seeing it right now.  “Broken smile” is just about how it feels to be me right now, which reeks of self pity and all those things I fight against, but sometimes it’s good to just say it, you know?  Perhaps if I acknowledge how terrible I’m feeling, it might turn things around.  Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn’t.

So, I’m going to drown myself in music for a while, thanks to my amazing followers.  Thanks for making my Sunday’s so enjoyable, even when I can’t find much joy.  And even though this song talks about the girl with the broken smile, I think there is also hope.

I do hope you enjoy.

Beauty queen of only eighteen she
Had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her, she
Always belonged to someone else
I drove for miles and miles and wound up
At your door
I’ve had you so many times but somehow I want more
I don’t mind spendin’ everyday
Out on your corner in the pourin’ rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved, and she will be loved
Tap on my window, knock on my door, I
Want to make you feel beautiful
I know I tend to get so insecure
It doesn’t matter anymore
It’s not always rainbows and butterflies
It’s compromise that moves us along yeah
My heart is full, and my door’s always open
You can come anytime you want yeah
I don’t mind spendin’ everyday
Out on your corner in the pourin’ rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved, and she will be loved
And she will be loved, and she will be loved
I know where you hide alone in your car
Know all of the things that make you who you are
I know that goodbye means nothing at all
Comes back and makes me catch her every time she
Falls
Yeah, tap on my window, knock on my door, I
Want to make you feel beautiful
I don’t mind spendin’ everyday
Out on your corner in the pourin’ rain oh
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved, and she will be loved
And she will be loved, and she will be loved
Please don’t try so hard to say good-bye
I don’t mind spendin’ everyday, out on your corner in the pourin’ rain
Please don’t try so hard to say good-bye

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 6/3/18

I’m so grateful to my followers.  Especially today.  I guess I overdid it and now my body is forcing me to take some down time.  I just don’t get why this whole exercise thing is so hard.  I guess if it was easy, we would all be super fit and healthy, right?  It hasn’t deterred me; it really is helping.  I’m going to get back at it.  I’m just hoping I feel better soon.

I did have help this week.  While I’m not going to use the month-long idea suggested by Jim Adams from A Unique Title For Me, I am going to use one of the prompts he suggested, so thank you for your help.  And if you haven’t done it yet, go check out his blog!

So, without any more self pity from me, let’s just get right to it.  Put your thinking caps on, break out your playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week, brought to us by Jim Adams, is “smile”.
